General Info FAQWhen To Travel

Overview

Lelystad is a city and a municipality in the middle of Holland. The city, built on reclaimed land, was founded in 1967 and was named after Cornelis Lely, who engineered the Afsluitdijk, making the reclamation possible.
It’s a new city, and therefore you won’t find a historic city center, but you will find plenty of opportunities and things to do. Thanks to its location on the waterfront, there are many water sports facilities. Besides that, Lelystad is also known for its history museums, shopping, beautiful nature reserves, and the Batavialand museum, taking you back in time to The Netherlands history.
