Binnenhof 2

Overview

The Binnenhof is a complex of buildings in The Hague, Netherlands. Originally it was a medieval building complex, but now serves the Houses of Representatives, the Senate, and the Ministry of General Affairs.

Knights Hall (Ridderzaal)

Ridderzaal building is the most impressive part of the Binnenhof. Although the building’s current design was completed towards the end of the last century, the Ridderazaal was initially constructed in the 13th and 14th centuries. It was initially built as a large hall for the Counts of Holland, as well as being used as a courtroom.

The Inner Court (Binnenhof) – Hall of Knights

Step through the famous entry gate into the historical Binnenhof. This is the place where the most significant events in Nederland’s history took place and where the future is formed. The Inner Court includes monumental old buildings and several broad open spaces, all freely available to the public.

Take a guided tour or simply stroll through the courtyard and admire the splendor.

The Netherlands has its charms all year-round, and you should plan your visit based on the types of activities you wish to do.

Summertimes, June to September offer longer days and lots of sunshine (average 19°C/66°F). These are popular times, so expect more crowds and higher prices, especially in big cities like Amsterdam, top attractions, and coastal resorts.

From November to December, winter months, the weather is much colder (average 3°C/37°F). The days are pretty short, especially around January. Late November to December are popular times with tourists visiting for the festive seasons and Christmas Markets around the country.

Weather-wise, the best times to visit are mid-April to mid-October.
If you wish to see the iconic colorful tulip fields in full bloom, you should plan to travel between mid-April to mid-May.
